Finally Moved into Sheldon

So, I am finally in Sheldon with Ray, and I couldn’t be happier. Beyond the facts that the room is pretty big, has heat and air-conditioning, and we have our own bathroom, this building is so incredibly quiet, and that last bit is what is especially important, since Mackin was so obnoxiously noisy. A couple of weeks ago, for example, a group of about five male residents stampeded down the hallway after two in the morning and shouted, “Everybody wake up!” making an alarm-like sound in the process, and that wasn’t even the weekend; it was a Thursday night.

Sheldon is so gorgeous, and I love the sense of community here; everyone is so friendly and helpful and wanting to meet new people and make new friends. The very first day that we were here, our RA introduced himself, and we have already met four or five residents who introduced themselves, and they were really nice people. Like I said, I couldn’t be happier to be here, especially with Ray.

What about this weather, though? I am a Junior, so this is my third Winter here, and this is the craziest one yet. It is definitely the coldest and the windiest. Thursday, I had two classes, and both were canceled, something that has never happened to me here before, and if Monday is anything like it was today (as in Saturday), then I don’t expect class on Monday, either, because today was exceptionally bad.

I would love to hear from others about how your semesters are going. Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, so hopefully everyone’s will be just as happy as I’m sure mine will be. I’ll be surely writing again soon; until then, take care.

Writers Block

This Week @ My Mac :

I have a lot of writing to do. A lot of writing due. I’ve been twisting and turning some of these ideas in my head all week , trying to figure what exactly I want to say and how. I got one REALLY(in my humble opinion) piece done which I hope to share with everyone. That will hopefully be seen by this time next week in its respective place. As for the rest I have a smidgen of a rough draft in my cranium.  They need to be liberated! Let my mind be free! 0_0!

Ok so now that I have officially creeped you out and wasted sometime. I will go finish watching this Laker vs NY game and pretend it will result in me finishing these pieces.

Dan Kamin

This past weekend, I went to Dan Kamin’s show at the Waterman Theater with my boyfriend Ray, and I was surprisingly pleased. I wasn’t expecting to like it as much as I did, but then again, I didn’t really know what it was that I was getting myself into, which is probably why it was that I wasn’t expecting to have so much fun.

Basically, what Dan Kamin’s show involved was primarily mime work, and he was hilarious. The show ran for approximately ninety minutes, and I was never bored, not for a minute. He was incredibly entertaining, and he told quite a few jokes, too. He was very communicative and interactive with the audience, and we were a part of the show. Perhaps, my favorite segment of the show was his parody of the Creation of the world according to the Bible, which managed to be hilarious but not offensive toward people who may have been Christians.

What’s really neat is that Ray and I then had the opportunity to meet Dan in person. On our way out of Sheldon later that night, he was walking in, and I had the chance to personally tell him that the show was awesome and that I enjoyed it, and that really made him happy. The show was definitely worth the $7.00, and it would be awesome if he came back for another show.

I Shall Return

Psss. Hey . Hey how ya doin?

Wanna talk?

Yeah so I’m around. I’ve been writing a series of different things for your (and my) enjoyment. So I’ve been spending sometime working diligently on them, editing them, making sure they are to AP copy editor standard (JLM is my maj so I’m trying to practice), things like that. When they are complete I will post them here. That as well as the links and photos to the things outside these swanky blog walls.

Life is a moving target

I have been so busy lately. I can’t even keep up with these blogs. I will make a better post soon.

I can’t wait to share all the good stuff I am going to do for quest, target, logistics, and a bunch of fun stuff too.

Sadly though, karate 2 for me this semester. I did what I needed to do and I got over being scared of being in a combat situation, alas though karate 2 involves full contact fighting…

So as a new executive cued up for target, I don’t want bruises on my money maker (my face) lol, it is probably far fetched but I have got the craziest last days of being scholar.

The Million Dollar Question

WHAT AM I GOING TO DO WITH MYSELF AFTER I GRADUATE?!

Figuring out what happens after I get off this crazy merry-go-round is becoming much more intense than usual. I mean, I’ve mapped out the road to graduation in Post-It Notes on my bedroom wall. That takes dedication (and a boring weekend). I have everything planned down to the very last credit hour. I don’t know what will happen exactly but if everything goes as planned, I could graduate a semester early, putting me at a December 2011 graduation date. I’m thrilled that I could potentially graduate a semester ahead of most of my peers (that means an extra semester’s worth of $$$ in my pocket) but it probably won’t do me any favors in job searching unless I land my dream internship this summer.

Oh Oswego…. if only I could make wishes on snowflakes. 🙂

Dear Old Chris,

Sometimes I look at the past and wonder how did I get where I am today? I am usually amazed at how far I’ve come. I’m now a junior in college, senior bound in a couple of months.

I have no idea of what I’m going to do after I finish my bachelor’s degree, but everytime I look at this old picture of myself, it calms me down and out everythinginto perspective. So if anyone else is stressed about the future, or their job or their classes. I hope you fint hat one thing that de-stresses you when you feel overwhelmed.

In The Winter We Can Build a Snow Man

A lot has happened this week, classes have picked up, my free time has evaporated faster than acetone in a sauna, the year of the rabbit has come and it snowed like crazy. As you could have guessed this is about the latter. Now I don’t have any pictures yet, because someone want to take forever sending them, but me and a friend made an awesome snow man and If you have never made one before It is a ton of work. To give you an idea I was sweating in sub zero temperatures, but It was all worth it to see this amalgam of air and ice take some human form. I think it is a good analogy for college, we work as hard as we can now and we think of the big picture so that when were done we can take our myriad of classes and turn them into a fulfilling career.

‎2nd Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Oratorical Contest

The Sigma Omicron Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. would like to welcome the entire SUNY Oswego campus, faculty and students to the Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Celebration which is done in conjunction with the Provost Office. Every year we celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr through several days of workshops, lectures, films early in the spring semester. We have recently added the Oratorical contest to the celebration. The contest is a battle of diction and verbalization, amongst competitors of the SUNY Oswego student body. The contest is taking place Thursday, February 10, 2011 at 6 PM, in the Campus Center Food Court.

This year’s Question we are posing to all participants is: Martin Luther King Jr. once said that “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’” In an age where our communities seemed to have an individualistic attitude, what do you believe to be the factors causing such and what solution you offer to combat such issues?

A Portrait of Humanity

You know, as part of our education and I guess overall class curriculum professors encourage and even require that we read the news/current events. Until now I pretty much chalked it up to making us a more “well rounded” individual for whatever “conversation” might occur. Suddenly it dawns on me. Its less about the actual political and knowing headlines to impress. Instead its more about really understanding our connection to the rest of the world. This picture, there is no political motivation involved in this picture and maybe that’s why it stuck out to me. First of all seeing anyone cry , especially a grown man is always disturbing. However seeing soldier crying and a protester take the time to console the man from taking his own life due to the extreme circumstances he felt he was in. That’s touching. At the end of the day the same way we are all americans whether we voted for Sen. Mcain or President Obama , whether we agreed with Rep. Gibson’s stance. These men and women are still Egyptians, pro-Mubark or not. And in the end . We are all humans ; Regardless of our skin, color, nationality or even sexual orientation . Sometimes we forget , but we cant allow that. Lets not forget. Surely a picture like this can stand as great reminder.
