It’s still really difficult for me to believe that this past semester is over. I went home last Thursday, since I didn’t have any finals, so I’ve been home for over a week now. Usually, near the end of the summer, I start having dreams that I am in school, in class or whatever else, but what’s weird is that I had one last night. I was in school, but it definitely wasn’t Oswego. I remember being outside, and I remember a waterfall. It was a big, colorful, beautiful city. I have strange dreams quite often, and most of the time, I can’t even begin to imagine what they mean.
Anyway, I am pretty happy to be home. Just in case you don’t know (see http://www.fringematters.com, my website, for proof), I have a rather unhealthy obsession with the TV series Fringe. It feels odd but very nice to be able to watch it at home. This past Thursday, Part 1 of the season finale aired, and my friend Mike came over to watch it with me. This coming Thursday is the finale, and I am planning to have a party of sorts with two other friends. It’s really nice to not be stressed out with a million things on my mind while it’s on. It’s nice to just be able to relax. Although I would like a summer job for the money, I don’t mind just taking it easy, either, and it’s so difficult to find a job, anyway. I’ve applied to a couple of places, and neither has contacted me yet.
Every year, Rome Catholic School puts on a rather elaborate fair. It’s called the RCS Field Days, and for the past few years, I have gone every year. It’s a lot of fun. Usually, I go on Friday. The “doors” open at 6 p.m., and I’m usually there with friends at around 5:30 or so, impatiently waiting for them to allow us to enter. This year, though, I am going with Ray (although I try to recall why I didn’t go with him last year, nothing comes to mind), and either Saturday or Sunday was better for him, so we’re going later today. I am really excited, because it’s usually a great deal of fun, and I’ve never gone with him before, so it will be especially fun. There was one year (two years ago) in which I can honestly say that the RCS Field Days was the highlight of my summer, if not my year.
Besides being able to see Ray, though, what I enjoy most about being home is being able to read for pleasure. I have so many books in my room calling my name, and that is so invigorating. It’s incredibly exciting. I feel like a starved man who is seeing food for the first time in a very long time. Right now, I am reading a novel by Emma Kinna, a good friend of mine who is actually a fellow Oswego student. It is called A House Afire, and I am enjoying it so far, although I am not very far. I am so happy to actually have time to read for pleasure.
Anyway, I am sure that throughout the summer, I will be checking in periodically, and I will try my very best to write again soon. In July, I am going to West Virginia with Ray in order to go ghost-hunting in Moundsville at the West Virginia Penitentiary, a prison that is no longer used for such purposes. You may have heard of the place, since it has been featured on ghost-hunting programs on television. Supposedly, it’s really haunted, so I am really excited to be doing that. I will most definitely blog about that experience. I hope to be writing very soon.
